"I’ve been a patient here for years, and my daughter has been coming since birth, every visit has always been a pleasant experience. The level of customer service is consistently exceptional.

Most recently, my 4 year old daughter needed a tooth removed. Understandably, we were both nervous, especially since sedation was recommended. But the staff were incredibly informative, kind, friendly, and so reassuring throughout the entire process.

A big thank you to Aneeta and Regina for going above and beyond to make this experience a positive one for both of us. We truly appreciate the care and professionalism from start to finish. Highly recommend! x

Inhalation Sedation
Inhalation Sedation

Inhalation sedation in dentistry is a simple and safe way to help patients feel more relaxed when visiting the dentist. Many people feel nervous about dental treatment, and some may even avoid appointments because of fear. Inhalation sedation, often called laughing gas, can make the experience much easier.

Inhalation Sedation

The gas used is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. It is given through a small, comfortable mask placed over the nose. As the patient breathes normally, the calming gas quickly takes effect. Within a few minutes, most people begin to feel lighter, more at ease, and less aware of their worries. Some patients describe a gentle floating or tingling sensation, while others simply feel calm and comfortable.

Inhalation Sedation

Importantly, this is a form of conscious sedation. That means patients remain awake the whole time. They can still talk to the dentist, follow instructions, and maintain full control of their body. Unlike general anaesthetic, there is no “going to sleep.”

FAQs

Inhalation sedation involves breathing a carefully controlled mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a small nose mask. The nitrous oxide has a calming effect on the brain and reduces anxiety, helping patients feel more relaxed during dental treatment. You remain fully conscious, able to respond and communicate, but more comfortable and less aware of worry or discomfort.

Yes! it’s very safe for both children and adults. Most children from around age 4 and up can use it, as long as they can understand how to breathe through the nose mask.

Most people feel light, floaty, calm, and sometimes a little giggly. You won’t be asleep, and you can still talk to the dentist and ask questions if you like.

The “happy gas” only works while you’re breathing it in. As soon as the mask comes off, the effects wear away in just a few minutes. You’ll feel back to normal very quickly and can carry on with your day.

The fee will be determined by the length of your appointment. The fee for sedation is separate to the dental treatment fee itself.

You may be able to claim back the fee for your sedation through your private health insurer.

No. All of your work will be completed in our practice, without the need to travel to different places or hospitals.

Yes, most patients can drive and return to normal activities straight after treatment, as the gas leaves your system very quickly.

Side effects are rare. Some people may feel a little light-headed or get the hiccups, but this passes once the gas is stopped.

It helps nervous patients feel comfortable, makes dental treatment easier, and is safe, gentle, and quick to recover from.
